Problem
The portfolio needed to account for product priorities, platform dependencies, partner commitments, and delivery capacity together.
Constraints
Migration planning had to account for an operating platform and the work already dependent on it.
Approach
I led five product delivery managers and the PMO, directing portfolio planning, delivery practices, governance, and discovery. I also directed development of a multi-year AWS migration program.
Current state
My role covered portfolio leadership and migration planning from 2020 to 2021.
What I learned
Portfolio planning is not four plans placed beside one another. Product priorities, platform dependencies, partner commitments, and delivery capacity have to become one sequence.
